Decalcifying
15
Depending on use and water hardness, the
appliance needs to be de-scaled every 4-6
weeks. When “Decalcify!” appears in the display,
this means that the appliance must be de-
scaled. Coffee can still be made for a number
of brews. After that, no more coffee can be
supplied (to protect the appliance) and it must
be decalcified.
Caution! Do not use vinegar or other decalcifying
agents not recommended by Melitta
®
.
Tip: Use the specially developed decalcifying
agents from Melitta
®
for automatic coffeemakers
and single cup machines, as these are exactly
adapted to your Melitta
®
CAFFEO
®
.
The automatic decalcifying programme takes
around 30 minutes and consists of two phases.
Proceed as follows:
Phase 1:
쐍
Turn the function controller
(20)
to
“Clean/Decalcify”. Use the selection keys
(19)
to select “Decalcifying” and confirm with
Start
(22)
.
쐍
“Please dissolve powder in tank“ appears
in the display. Dissolve the de-scaling agent
in 0.5 litres of water and pour the solution
into the water reservoir
(7)
,
Fig. X
.
쐍
Confirm with Start
(22)
.
Please follow the instructions for use of
your decalcifying agent.
쐍
“Open container please” appears in the
display. Empty the coffee grounds container
and replace again. Then pull out the
container
(11)
to the middle of the drip
tray in order to collect the de-scaling
solution. Please place another receptacle
under the steam/boiling water nozzle
(14)
.
쐍
Then press the start key
(22)
.
쐍
When the message “Open steam knob
please” appears, open the steam/hot water
valve
(16)
. Roughly the quantity of one cup
of water is pumped into the receptacle.
When the message “Please close steam
knob” appears, then shut off the valve and
confirm with Start
(22)
.
쐍
The coffee outlet is then automatically
de-scaled.
“Appliance is decalcifying” is displayed during
the whole de-scaling operation. Various
cleaning cycles with breaks are now run. This
lasts some 25 minutes.
The message “Fill water tank with fresh water
please” is the signal that Phase 2 can begin –
an extra rinsing cycle. Phase 2 lasts around 5
minutes.
Phase 2:
쐍
Rinse the water reservoir
(7)
, fill to capacity
with fresh water (1.5 litres) and re-fit the
reservoir to the coffeemaker. Confirm with
Start
(22)
.
쐍
“Please empty container” appears in the
display. Empty the coffee grounds con-
tainer
(11)
and receptacle and place both
under the coffee outlet
(12)
and steam/hot
water outlet
(14)
.
쐍
Now press the start key
(22)
.
쐍
As with Phase 1, you are now asked to firstly
rinse out the steam/hot water outlet
(14)
:
“Open steam knob please”. Roughly the
quantity of one cup of water is pumped
into the receptacle. “Please close steam knob”
then appears in the display. Close the valve
and confirm with Start
(22)
.
쐍
The appliance is now rinsed thoroughly to
ensure complete removal of the de-scaling
solution. “Appliance is rinsing” appears
in the display. De-scaling is over when no
further water is dispensed from the coffee
outlet and “Please empty container” appears
in the display.
쐍
Empty the coffee grounds container and
confirm its replacement by pressing the
Start key
(22)
. Refill the water reservoir. After
confirming with Start
(22)
, the decalcifying
programme is completed and you are re-
turned to the main menu. The coffeemaker
is ready for use again.
We would advise not drinking the first cup of
coffee, in order to be absolutely sure that
nothing remains of the de-scaling solution in
the coffeemaker.
Standby
16
If the machine is ready for operation, but has
not been in use for over five minutes, it
automatically switches to stand-by mode. The
time is displayed with the brightness dimmed.
This function does not affect the Auto-On
and Auto-Off functions. Pressing any key will
return you to operating mode.
Reset
17
To reset all settings to default, press all three
individual selection keys
(24)
simultaneously
for 5 seconds. Please note: the language will
also be reset to default.
