8.2 ...with ground coffee
With the appliance ready for use, turn the
coffee bean container
(2)
to the position for
ground coffee operation,
Fig. G
. The brewing
strength display is extinguished.
Should there be any beans in the ground
coffee chute
(1)
, they will be stuck between
the housing and the ground coffee chute. You
can remove these beans by setting the bean
selector switch to the mid-position and remo-
ving the coffee bean container
(2)
,
Fig. H, I
.
Take off the chute lid for ground roasted coffee
(1)
and put in fresh ground coffee.
Use a level scoop to dose for one or two cups
of coffee. Dose to select the desired brewing
strength.
Pointer:
Fig. J
Never put in more than 2 level
scoops of ground roasted coffee so as not to
overfill the brewing chamber. Only ground
coffee may be used. Instant coffee might clog
up the brewing unit.
Replace the lid on the chute. Turn the function
controller
(20)
to select the quantity for 1 cup,
2 cups or carafe brewing. Your selection deter-
mines which filling capacity and symbol are
shown in the display. Now place the cup or
cups under the height-adjustable coffee
outlet
(12)
,
Fig. F
.
Any quantity of water between 15 -200 ml
can be set. Use the water quantity regulator
keys
(25)
to select the quantity of water. The
water quantity bar increases when the upper
key is pressed and decreases when the lower
one is pressed. The selected quantity in ml is
shown in the display. The name for the coffee
speciality you have selected varies in line with
the quantity.
After making your selection, press the start
key
(22)
. Re-pressing the start key will stop
coffee being dispensed.
Pointer: If you have selected carafe brewing,
you will again be asked to pour in ground
coffee after the first brewing. The maximum
supply volume of 400 ml for carafe brewing
matches the capacity of the supplied Melitta
®
carafe.
Individual and direct selection keys
9
This machine has 6 individually programmable
keys. You can programme your favourite coffee
or, for example, match various coffees to the
cup size of your tableware.
9.1 Individual selection keys
The individual selection keys
(24)
allow you
to select your own personal coffee. They allow
you to store your own personal coffee settings,
as described below:
쐍
Select the brewing strength
(19)
and water
quantity
(25)
for your personal coffee.
쐍
Save this setting by pressing the individual
key for more than 3 seconds.
쐍
If programming is successful, “OK” flashes
on the display.
When you next select “your” key, the setting
you have programmed appears in the display.
9.2 Direct selection keys
The direct selection keys
(23)
have fixed
symbols. The small cup stands for Espresso,
the medium-sized cup for Café Crème and
the large cup for a large Café Crème. Although
the settings for these cups are saved in the
machine, they can also be programmed – just
as with the individual selection keys. The
selection you make by pressing the key
appears in the display.

8.1 ...with coffee beans
When the appliance is ready for operation,
turn the coffee bean container
(2)
to the
position for coffee-bean operation,
Fig. D
.
Remove the coffee bean container lid and fill
with fresh beans. Only fill the container with
coffee beans and no higher than a max. of 1
cm under the rim of the container. This is to
stop the container possibly spilling when
adjusting for the bean type.
Tip: This appliance is fitted with the Bean Select
two-chamber bean container. Each chamber
can hold some 100 g of coffee beans. To enjoy
the full variety, fill one chamber with e.g.
espresso beans and the second one with café
crème beans. You can mark the kind of coffee
by placing the supplied sticker on the bean
container.
Then replace the lid on the container. Select
the desired coffee by setting the bean container
switch
(3)
appropriately. The bean selector
switch points to the chamber supplying the
beans.
Pointer:
Fig. E
When setting the bean selector
switch, the shape of the coffee beans might
cause some beans to get stuck. These beans
can be freed and the switch shifted by turning
the switch again and moving the beans about
in the container. If the bean selector switch is
set in a vertical position when brewing, this
will prevent beans from getting into the grinder.
The result will be a watery coffee.
Since some coffee beans always remain above
the grinder, switching over to a different bean
type produces intermixing in the first cup of
coffee. If you want to be sure of preparing a
pure cup of coffee, we would advise brewing a
small cup of coffee first and throwing it away.
The second cup after switching over will then
be exactly as requested – this is particularly
important when using decaffeinated coffee
blends and for users who may be allergic to
caffeine.
Turn the function controller
(20)
to select the
quantity for 1 cup, 2 cups or carafe brewing.
Your selection determines which filling capacity
and symbol are shown on the display. Now
place one or two cups or the Melitta
®
carafe
under the coffee outlet
(12)
,
Fig. F
. By pressing
the individual or direct selection keys
(24, 23)
you can select a coffee or set your own indi-
vidual coffee taste. Make use of the brewing
strength (
19)
and water quantity
(25)
regu-
lators.
The brewing strength is continuously variable
from very mild (mild +) to very strong (strong
+). Select your desired brewing strength using
the brewing strength regulator keys
(19)
. The
brewing strength bar increases when the upper
key is pressed and decreases when the lower
one is pressed.
Any quantity of water between 15-200 ml can
be set. Use the water quantity regulator
(25)
to select the water quantity. The water quantity
bar increases when the upper key is pressed
and decreases when the lower one is pressed.
The selected quantity in ml is shown in the
display. The name of the coffee speciality you
have selected varies in line with the water
quantity chosen.
After making your selection, press the start
key
(22)
. Re-pressing the start key will stop
coffee being dispensed.
With carafe brewing, you can brew a larger
quantity of coffee at one go. This is particularly
useful when making more than 2 cups or
coffee/milk specialities.
Pointer: The maximum supply volume of 400
ml for carafe brewing matches the capacity of
the supplied Melitta
®
carafe.
Actual coffee consumption is between 6–16 g.
This depends on the amount of water used
and the strength of the coffee.
