• Switch off the engine:
– before removing a blockage.
– before checking, cleaning or doing any
other work on the machine.
– Before changing the position of the
cutting mechanism.
– before leaving the machine unattended.
• Always put the machine in the correct
working position before starting it.
• Always maintain a firm footing and good
balance. Be careful when working on
ladders or scaffolding etc.
• Do not use the machine if the cutting
mechanism is damaged or worn.
• Keep the engine and muffler free from
impurities, leaves and the accumulation of
lubricant – fire risk.
• Never use the machine if a handle, guards
or covers are dismantled or damaged. Do
not use the machine if parts, guards and
covers are missing or damaged – risk of
serious personal injury. Never attempt to
modify the machine.
• Machines that have two handles must
always be operated with both hands.
• Risk of kickback
Risk of kickback
• Kickback can suddenly occur if the blades
get stuck, jam or are incorrectly adjusted. If
this happens the blades are suddenly
braked, which in turn forces the machine in
the opposite direction to the movement of
the blades.
• If for example a blade is jammed against a
stone the edge of the blade can dig into the
material and the bar is pulled towards or
forced away for the workpiece. The bar can
be thrown towards or away from the user,
depending on the direction of movement.
• Kickback occurs during incorrect use of the
machine and/or incorrect working methods
or conditions, but can be avoided by taking
the following measures.
– Hold the machine firmly with both
hands and keep your arms in a
position that prevents kickback.
– Never put your hands near moving
parts – risk of personal injury from
kickback.
– Stand to one side of the machine
without any part of the body in line
with the movement of the blades –
risk of personal injury from kickback.
– Be extra careful on curves, corners and
edges etc. There is more risk of the
machine jamming or getting stuck,
which can cause kickback.
Maintenance and storage
• Switch off the machine and release the
spark plug lead before checking, adjusting,
maintenance, or changing accessories.
Allow the machine to cool before checking,
adjusting, or putting it away, etc.
• Store the machine where fuel vapour
cannot come into contact with naked
flames or sparks. Always allow the machine
to cool before putting it away.
• Replace damaged or worn parts.
• If the fuel tank needs emptying, do this
outside.
• Clean and carry out maintenance on the
machine before putting it away.
• Never dismantle the guard for the cutting
mechanism.
• Store the bar and blades in cool, dry place.
Do not use the machine if the bar or blades
are rusty or damaged – risk of serious
personal injury.
