R5/R3 SERIES I/O MODULES
The remote I/O modules can be used as I/O for the 7xET. However, unlike the R1M modules, the R3/R5 remote I/O
can freely configure its I/O modules installed in a base. For example, one base can mount different number of
modules; each module can handle different number of signals; and mixed signals, e.g. temperature and discrete,
can be handled on the same base. Furthermore, these I/O modules are designed to be locally configured with
hardware switches on the modules. Users should be aware of these differences in handling the R5/R3 modules in
the Paperless Recorder system.
7.1
R5-NM1
This section explains about the R5 series I/O modules including R5-NM1 hardware settings specific for use with the
PC Recorder, and the 7xET software settings specific to the R5 series I/O modules.
7.1.1
CONFIGURING THE R5-NM1 HARDWARE
The R5-NM1 Modbus Module and connected I/O modules must be set to proper DIP switch configuration before
connecting to the 7xET. For I/O Modules, refer to instruction manuals for a specific model.
For the Modbus Module, set the DIP switches on the front and side as explained below.
Figure 7.1.1: R5-NM1 external views.
Table 7.1.1a: Side DIP switch setting: Data allocation mode.
The Data Allocation Mode 1 is used when all analog I/
O modules are single-channel types. The second
channel on the dual-channel analog modules cannot
be used.
The Data Allocation Mode 2 is used when one or more
analog I/O modules are dual-channel types.

RUN and ERR lamps can be used to show either trans-
mission diagnostic status (normal/abnormal) or send-
ing/receiving status.
