Troubleshooting
Before sending the pyrometer for repair, try to find the error and to solve the problem with the
help of the following list.
Symptom
Probable Cause
Comments
Temperature
indication too low
Incorrect alignment of the pyrometer
to the object
New correct alignment to
achieve the max. temperature
signal (see
3.4.1
)
Incorrect focusing of the optics
Focus correctly to the
measuring distance, if
necessary change lens (see
3.6.1
)
Measuring object smaller than spot
size
Change lens and measuring
distance (see
6.5.1
)
Emissivity set too high
Set lower correct emissivity
corresponding to the material
(see
4.4
)
Lens contaminated or scratched
Clean lens carefully or replace
it (see
6.2 6.3
)
Temperature
indication too high
Emissivity set too low
Set lower correct emissivity
corresponding to the material
(see
4.4
)
The measurement is influenced by
reflections of hot machine parts
Use mechanical construction
to avoid the influence of the
interfering radiation (sighting
tube)
Measuring errors
Indicated temperature is decreasing
during the use of the pyrometer,
contamination of the lens
Clean lens (see
6.2
)
HF-interferences
Correct the connection of the
cable shield (see
3.1
)
Instrument overheated
Instrument too close to the
calibration source. Choose a
farther position. If necessary,
change the optics (see
6.3
)
Temperature Indication is fluctuating
during alignment to the calibration
source
Calibration source has a non-
uniform temperature
distribution
Laser targeting light
Laser targeting light fails
Instruments temperature
above 55 °C. Choose a farther
position to the calibration
source
