Safety instructions

Safety harnesses

Use safety harnesses if scaffolding and barriers are not feasible
for technical reasons relating to the work being done or the buil-
ding in question. These should also be used when working near
gable ends.

!

Use only approved safety harnesses and test them each

time before use.

Overhead lines

When working under overhead lines carrying voltage, observe

the following safety distances, depending on the voltage:

•  1 m (< 1000 V)
•  3 m (between 1 kV and 110 kV)
•  4 m (between 110 kV and 230 kV)
•  5 m (between 230 kV and 400 kV

or if voltage is unknown)

Any bare, overhead cables should be insulated by the network
operator.

4.3

Safety regulations when working on roofs

All rooftop work should be carried out professionally and safely.
Make sure that those involved are securely fastened to the buil-
ding and that they have taken steps to protect third parties from
falling objects by putting in place the appropriate barriers and by
marking any danger zones.

Safety preparations before starting the installation

Before starting work, make sure you have all the necessary safety
equipment.  Ensure too that all those involved in the work have
been provided with and are observing the relevant safety instruc-
tions. Please find below an overview of the most important safety
precautions.  It is not claimed that this is a comprehensive over-
view.

Rooftop safety nets and barriers

Use safety nets and barriers when working on rooftops with eaves
higher than 3 metres, or when the roof has a pitch of 20° to a
maximum 45°.

Provide adequate protection of the working area and a safety
barrier of sufficient height. Brackets designed to hold safety bar-
riers should only be attached to through walls that run vertically
from the eaves and to rafters that are capable of taking sufficient
weight. The rafters should have a minimum cross-section of 6 x
10 cm. Use only brackets that are specifically designed for this
purpose and observe the guidelines provided relating to the safe
working area. Installers who are fitting safety barriers must use a
rope attachment (safety harness).

Roofers‘ chairs and ladders

On rooftops with a pitch of between 45° and 60°, roofers‘ chairs
and ladders should be used, regardless of the height of the eaves.
