
You also can define what the power button does. For example, by pressing the power button, you can turn
off the computer or put the computer into sleep or hibernation mode. To change what the power button
does, do the following:

NFC label (available on some models)
If you find a near field communication (NFC) label near the trackpad, it indicates that your computer comes
with an NFC card. NFC is a high-frequency and short-range wireless communication technology. You can
use NFC technology to transfer data from one device to another by touching them or putting them close
together. For more information about the NFC feature, see “Using the NFC devices” on page 32.

Smart-card slot (available on some models)
You can use smart cards for authentication, data storage, and application processing. Within large
organizations, you might also use smart cards for strong security authentication of single sign-on (SSO). For
more information, see “Using a smart card” on page 35.

Always On USB connector
By default, the Always On USB connector enables you to charge the USB-compatible devices in the
following situations:
• When your computer is on or in sleep mode
• When your computer is off or in hibernation mode, but connected to ac power
Attention:
When you attach a USB cable to this connector, ensure that the USB mark is facing upward.
Otherwise the connector might get damaged.
To charge these devices when the computer is off or in hibernation mode, and the computer is not connected
to ac power, do the following:
1. Start the Lenovo Settings program. See “Accessing Lenovo programs” on page 12.
2. Click

3. Follow the instructions on the screen to make your preferred setting.

Mini Ethernet connector
The mini Ethernet connector makes your computer thinner than the ones with a standard Ethernet connector.
To connect your computer to a local area network (LAN) through the mini Ethernet connector, you need an
Ethernet extension adapter. The Ethernet extension adapter is available as an option and shipped with
some computer models. For information about using and purchasing the Ethernet extension adapter,
see “Cabled Ethernet connections” on page 29.
