5. Assembling the microscope – condenser
Assembling IC condenser prisms
• Switch the microscope off.
• Remove the condenser door (Fig. 36.1). The prism is in-
serted into one of the large receptacles of the condenser
disk featuring guide grooves.
• Using the adjusting key, turn the right centering screw
of the condenser disk (Fig. 37.2) all the way back. In
order to prevent the condenser disk from rotating, in-
sert the adjusting key (Fig. 37.2) into the left center-
ing screw of the disk. This may protrude
a maximum
of 1 mm
into the opening.
• Using the condenser clamp, grip the prism to be installed
(the marking must be facing upwards and be legible), so
that the cross piece of the prism ring stands at the cen-
ter of the clamp’s lug and the upper edge of the prism
is lying flat in the clamp holder. The K2-K16 numbering
should face towards the tip of the clamp. The prism can
be grFiged by pressing down on the side prongs of the
clamp (Fig. 38).
• Two guiding ridges can be found on the bottom of the
prisms. These ridges must fit into the two grooves in the
opening.
The prism must be inserted (condenser clamp from above
at a slight angle and at an angle of approx. 90° to the
housing) so that the mount is grips under the spring clip of
the holder (Fig. 38).
!
Caution!
Never press down on the spring clip. This can destroy the
clip or put the prism in an unstable position.
Make sure that the prism clicks into place (through rota-
tion) and loosen the clamp.
If necessary, carefully remove fingerprints (or dust) from
the prism.
• The prism is precentered using the left centering screw.
The right centering screw must never limit the range of
movement.
• Write down the number of the opening and the prism des-
ignation so that the LAS software can be adjusted later.
• Remove the adjusting key and close the condenser again.
• Centering precision is achieved using the telescopic unit
after the microscope has been switched off.
