5. Assembling the microscope – Dic moDule AnD Dic objective prisms
5.1
Assembling the DIC Module and DIC objective
prisms
If the microscope is not equipped with DIC, please jump
ahead to Chapter 5.2.
In microscopes of the Leica DMi8 M series, the DIC prisms
are already installed in the DIC disk (Fig. 7) below the objec-
tive turret. Motorized, manually encoded and manual DIC
disks are offered. Assembly is identical for all variants.
When upgrading the IC prism disk, follow these steps:
• Remove the front panel (Fig. 8) under the objective turret
after loosening the Allen screws (Fig. 9).
• Insert the DIC prism disk (Fig. 7) evenly into the recep-
tacle. Start by gently turning one screw using the 3 mm
hexagonal key provided. Then, tighten both Allen screws.
!
Caution!
Insert the prism disk so that the electronics board is fac-
ing downwards. Do not touch the electronics (especially
the contacts) with your fingers!
Upgrading individual IC prisms:
• Loosen both Allen screws and remove the prism disk.
• Place the prisms against the peg (Fig. 7.3) and the shim
between the prism and screw (Fig. 10) and lightly tighten
to avoid tension. Insert the prisms so that the identifying
letter, or ID, is facing upwards and is legible.
• After assembling the prisms, reinsert the prism disk into
the receptacle.
Alternatively:
Insert the objective prism slide (Fig. 11) into the slot below
the objective turret. The code letter must match the code
letter on the objective.
