3-3 2225 ROCK SHAFT IN STAL LA TION

3-3.1
Po si tion the rock shaft un der the gauge
wheel mount ing brack ets.
IMPORTANT
THE GAUGE WHEEL ARMS SHOULD POINT
TO
WARD THE REAR OF THE MA CHINE WITH
THE CYL IN DER AN CHORS FAC ING UP.
3-3.2
In stall the up per bear ings.
a. Slip the 3/4" x 8-1/2" cap screws through the
holes pro vided for them in the mount ing
brack ets.
b. Place the up per bear ing halves (with the
grease zerk in the side) on top of the rock -
shaft with grease zerks away from the gauge
wheel arms. There are five bear
ing as sem -
blies on the rock shaft.
IMPORTANT
BE SURE TO IN STALL THE FIFTH BEAR ING IN
THE CEN
TER, TO ITS PROPER MOUNT ING
BRACKET.
c. Use a hoist or fork lift to raise the rock shaft.
Use the cap screws to guide the rock shaft
and top bear ing halves into place.
3-3.3 Set a lower bear ing half (with a grease
zerk be tween the bolt holes) un der the rock -
shaft and through the hang
ing ends of the
cap screws.
3-3.4 Se cure each set of bear ings tight
enough to the rock shaft to hold the as sem bly
to
gether. Use the wash ers and lock ing nuts
pro vided.
3-3.5 In sert the rock shaft shims, as needed,
be tween each set of bear ings. Use the shims
to al low the rock shaft to ro tate freely, yet not
loosely, in the bear
ing halves. Re peat this
step for each set of bear ings. Then tighten
the cap screws.
3-3.6 Mount the tires on the wheel rims and
as sem ble to the hubs. Tighten wheel bolts
evenly to as sure proper wheel align ment.
Wheel bolts should be tight ened to 90 ft- lbs
of torque. The hoist can then be re moved.
IMPORTANT
AN 11L X 15" FARM SERV ICE TIRE SHOULD
BE USED ON THE 15" X 8" RIM. IN FLATE THE
TIRE TO ITS MANU
FAC TUR ER’S REC OM -
MENDED PRES SURE.

In stall the base end of the gauge wheel
cyl in ders on the frame cyl in der an chors.
Face the rod end down, to wards the gauge
wheel, and face the ports up wards (See Fig -
ure 3-3) . Se cure each cyl in der to the cyl in -
der an chor with the cle vis pins and cot ter
pins sup plied with the cyl in der.
CAU TION
BE SURE EACH CYL IN DER HAS A
RE STRIC TOR FIT TING IN THE BASE
END. FAIL
URE TO DO SO WILL
CAUSE THE ROCK SHAFT TO FAIL.
3-3.8 Po si tion the lock out as sem blies above
the gauge wheel arms and the rod ends of
the cyl in ders
(See Fig ures 3-2 and 3-3) .
The open end of the lock outs should be over
the gauge wheel arms with the U-
shaped
cut out on the op po site end fac ing up wards.
3-3.9 In sert the ex tended cyl in der pin through
the lock out as sem bly, the cyl in der cle vis and
the gauge wheel arm bracket
(See Fig ure
3-3) . Se cure with hair pin clips.
