4-22 COULTER CUTTERS
4-22.1
Cutters with 22" diameter concave discs
are standard equipment. The discs cut ag-
gressively and mix residue with worked soil.
4-22.2
Rippled disc coulters 20" in diameter are
available for loosely working the soil with
minimal surface residue loss
(See Figure
.
4-22.3
Disc coulter down pressure is adjusted by
tightening or loosening spring pressure. See
the ADJUSTMENTS Section.
4-23 LEVELING BAR
4-23.1
The leveling bar knocks down soil ridges,
providing a smoother field finish. Optional
straight, spike-type teeth can be added to the
bar if desired.
4-23.2
Four holes allow vertical adjustment
(See
Figure 4-35).
To change, remove the clip pin
and pivot pin, and relocate as desired.
4-23.3
To adjust down pressure, change the
chain length between the springs and chain
attachment bolt.
4-24 DEEP-TILL SHANKS
4-24.1
Deep-till shanks are available to replace
the standard shanks
on the rear bar of rigid
frame implements only (See Figure 4-36)
.
The shanks reduce compaction problems by
shattering the soil 4" (102 mm) below the
standard chisel shanks.
4-24.2
The shanks are equipped with automatic
reset clamps, allowing non-stop field opera-
tion.
