Section 2: Operating Instructions
MR1572 & HR2572 Retractable Box Scraper 305-083M

HR25 Basic Operation
Refer to Figure 2-3:
1.
Always raise Box Scraper off the ground with tractor’s
3-point lift before rotating shanks up or down.
2. Extend cylinder to rotate shanks up and retract
cylinder to rotate shanks down.
3. Always check locking pin (#1) after shanks are
rotated down to be sure locking pin is fully engaged
into the shank frame locking lug (#2). This will avoid
pressure to the hydraulic cylinder and linkage.

General Operating Instructions
Once you have familiarized yourself with the Operator’s
Manual, completed the operations checklist, and
properly attached your Land Pride Retractable Box
Scraper to your tractor, you are now almost ready to
begin work. Mechanical or hydraulic Retractable Box
Scrapers are ideal for ripping, leveling, finish grading, and
backfilling applications at commercial feedlots, outdoor
arenas, building sites, construction sites, and
maintenance operations on farms and ranch lanes or
roadways. Hopefully you have checked out your work site
for any buried utility cables, pipelines, or other obstacles
that you wouldn’t want to damage or encounter. Grade
stakes should now be in place if you intend to develop a
specific grade or elevation.
IMPORTANT:
Be sure to check locking pin (#1) to
make certain it has fully engaged into the shank
frame locking lug (#2) as shown in Figure 2-3 before
working the soil.

A Box Scraper’s primary purpose is grading and leveling.
This function is best done at an approximate 2 to 4mph
ground speed. With the ripper shanks raised all the way
up out of working position, simply lower the Box Scraper
to the ground and proceed forward. The grader blade
should immediately begin shaving the soil surface and
dirt or aggregate material should begin accumulating in
the box. You can transfer this material by dragging it to a
nearby location and then slowly raising the Box Scraper
to deposit your accumulated load. You can also achieve a
more uniform distribution and leveling of scraped
material by setting the Box Scraper to shave off high
spots allowing accumulated material to flow out under the
grader blade in the low spots.
Occasionally the ground or surface material will be very
hard and will require ripping or scarifying to loosen the
soil profile in order for the Box Scraper blade to be
effective. If ripping or scarifying action is desired, lower
the whole compliment of shanks into working position
before engaging the soil surface. This is done
mechanically with your MR1572 or hydraulically with your
HR2572. More aggressive ripping action is achieved
when the individual shanks are uniformly adjusted to the
lowest working position and the action becomes less
aggressive as the shanks are raised incrementally
upward in working position. The compliment of scarifying
shanks should not be raised out of working position
either mechanically or hydraulically until the Box Scraper
is no longer in contact with the soil. Achieving the desired
effect will require a little experimentation in your given
conditions. Box Scrapers generally perform better in dry
to slightly damp soil conditions.
Your Land Pride Retractable Box Scraper can also be
used for backfilling applications. Simply lower your Box
Scraper and back the standard rear facing grader blade
into the pile of dirt you are using for backfill. Continue
backfilling and pushing operations until you have
successfully completed the task.
With a little practice you should become a very good
operator and consistently achieve the desired results you
expect with your Land Pride Box Scraper.
