3.7.3 Filling and emptying processes
When filling and emptying flammable liquids the containers used must be equipped with an
equipotential connection.
Stored containers should only be opened for filling and emptying processes, otherwise they
must be kept hermetically sealed.
The containers and their filling openings must not project beyond the edge of the collection
trough.
3.8
Installation
The installation of the collection system inside a room must be carried out in such a way that
operating devices, e.g. the ventilation system, are not blocked. Air must be able to flow freely
into the inlet openings and out of the exhaust openings.
4.
Combined storage / Labelling / Checks
4.1
Combined storage
Care must be taken that the stored substances cannot undergo dangerous reactions with
each other when stored together in/on the collection system. The combined storage
prohibitions given in the regulations must be observed (e.g. in TRbF 20, TRGS 514,
TRGS 515 … in Germany).
4.2
Markings
Areas in storerooms for storing different hazardous substances must be marked with the
appropriate hazard symbols. A hazardous substances register must also be kept.
4.3
Checks
The collection troughs of the collection systems must be checked regularly, at least every
two days, when in use for leaks, contamination, etc.
Checks must be documented.
The collection troughs of the collection systems must be thoroughly checked once per year
for signs of damage, corrosion, etc.
4.4
Maintenance
Any damage to the construction or paintwork must be remedied immediately so that the
construction remains intact and no corrosion can occur as a result of the damage to the
paintwork.
Damaged grids should only be replaced by grids of the same type and load-bearing
capacity.
Damage that considerably affects the functioning of the collection system as a whole must be
repaired by the manufacturer or and authorized specialist (in Germany a special firm as
per §19 WHG).
