2.1. STEP 1: Connecting the
Interface Cable
1. Connect either the USB or eSATA interface cable.
USB connection:
If the USB bus on your computer does not
provide the necessary power to operate your LaCie Rugged,
disconnect the USB cable, connect the USB power cable to
your computer and to the Rugged, and then reconnect the
USB cable.

formation.
eSATA connection:
If your computer has a Power eSATA
port, the drive will be bus-powered through this connection
(
Fig. 07
). Otherwise, additionally connect the USB power ca-
ble to the drive and to your computer (
Fig. 08
).

more information.
2. After a few seconds, the drive will mount in My Computer (Win-
dows) or on your desktop (Mac).
NOTE:
As an alternative to using the USB power cable, you can
purchase an A/C power adapter from the LaCie website.
