TROUBLESHOOTING
This section covers the basic troubleshooting of the system and briefly reviews setting
audible alerts for alarms.
13.1 Introduction
Troubleshooting procedures described in this manual emphasize the concept of
performance monitoring and signal path testing through Built in Test (BIT) and logical
flow. These procedures include troubleshooting aids, BITs, and signal path logic aids.
System diagnostics provide for fault localization of signal paths and group fault
localization. Any assembly with a malfunction beyond the repair capabilities of typical
user level maintenance will be repaired at the depot or original manufacturer level.
Depot level maintenance procedures are beyond the scope of this manual.
Troubleshooting is based on display indication and logical assumptions based on
observations of the Modem and presented in the form of tables. The tables are error or
symptom orientated, and front panel indications are combined with fault isolation
techniques. If the corrective action is inconclusive or the fault persists after a corrective
action is taken, proceed to the next possible cause and perform its corrective action.
Continue until the fault is cleared or until all corrective actions have been exhausted.
After each corrective action has been performed, recheck the equipment to see if the
fault has been cleared.
13.2 General Troubleshooting Guidelines
If a problem is encountered with the Modem, verify all installation and operating steps
have been performed in accordance with this manual, then use the following general
guide to determine whether the fault can be corrected using simple measures.
a. Check that the primary power is applied and the cable is firmly attached.
b. Check that all rear cables are firmly attached and correctly wired.
c. Check the operational settings of the
Setup Menu
.
d. Check that the data Terminal device is functioning properly and configured
correctly.
If a problem cannot be resolved using the General Troubleshooting Guidelines, refer to
the Troubleshooting Table in Section 13.4 that identifies specific symptoms, offers
possible causes, and suggests corrective actions.
13.3 Modem BIT and Status Troubleshooting
The Modem automatically performs BIT at power on. Several LEDs and indicators on
both the physical hardware and the HCI will indicate the status of that BIT and any
resulting failures.
