Impulse Noise
Impulse Noise is a variable noise, that is
caused by external electromagnetic
sources near the DSL line.
Examples of impulse noise sources
The switching on or off of a refrigerator
motor or elevator motor (telephone lines are
often deployed in the elevator shaft) or other
power pulses near telephone lines.
The noise pulse is a voltage whose value is
at least 12 dB higher than the power level of
the background noise. The KECT3 works
as noise-pulse counter. A pulse is counted,
when the voltage of the received pulse has
exceeded the preset threshold value for
more than 500 µs.
Measurement result
Select the mode
Impulse Noise
and press
SEL
. Set Threshold and Impedance. By
pressing the 1 keyof the numeric keypad or
SEL
the measurement process starts.
Displayed is the threshold in Volt, the
duration in seconds and the number of
measured noise pulses. With F4
Clear
you
can set Runtime and Number of noise
pulses to zero.
