ATEX construction fans and motors (flameproof)
Flameproof
– ATEX fans and motors are designed for use in locations where there are liable to be fumes, dust
or flammable or explosive gases.
•
Installation should be carried out by qualified personnel.
•
ATEX-fans are designed to have different material combinations between rotating and static parts so
as not to produce a spark should they come into contact with each other. Ensure that the material of
impeller blades matches the material specified by the manufacturer.
•
Special care must be exercised when electrically connecting such units to ensure a secure flameproof
connection.
•
Any electrical control gear (including the capacitor in the case of single-phase motors) must be located
outside the hazardous area if they are not a flameproof type.
•
The motor should not be allowed to become coated with dirt, dust etc. which could restrict surface
cooling and consequently raise the temperature of the motor.
•
For ATEX use in group IIC there is a limitation for paint layer thickness of 0,2mm due to
possibility of electrostatic discharge. In case where the corrosion protection is necessary to be
higher level, buyer is obligated to monitor the possible dust layer on the fan and to clean the
surface with wet rag.
9.4.
Frequency converter
In relation to frequency converters and speed control, please note the following:
•
Extra loads due to fast acceleration and breaking should be avoided, if possible. We recommend
operating the fan with the following run-up times:
•
outer diameter of impeller
•
Run-up time
•
<1000 mm
•
>30 s
•
1000<d<2000 mm
•
>60 s
•
The frequency converter must block out resonant frequency. The frequency at which such frequencies
are passed must be reduced to a minimum.
•
Prior to assembly and commissioning, read the safety instructions of the frequency converter
manufacturer

Storage instructions for spare parts and wear parts
All parts should be stored in a temperature-
controlled room (+15 … +25°C).
The maximum storage time for roller bearing in their original packaging is two years. Older parts must be
replaced.
Parts that contain rubber-type materials such as shaft seal rings, O-rings, flexible nozzles, vibration dampers,
V-belts, etc. must be protected against sunlight. Such parts must be inspected every 12 months for brittleness.
The maximum storage time is five years, unless a different storage period is specified by the manufacturer.
Metal parts such as impellers, shafts, shaft sleeves, belt pulleys and bearing housings must be inspected every
12 months for damage. If necessary, renew conservation coating. Blank parts must be protected with a film or
grease.
