Troubleshooting
If a malfunction occurs during the operation of the fan, consult this table to determine its cause. The table also
contains recommended measures that might eliminate the problem.
All malfunctions and its description must be documented in a log.
Message, parameter
Possible cause
Recommended measures
Bearing
temperature
>80°C
Fault in the temperature monitoring
system
Check sensor and measuring instrument,
replace defective devices
Reduce grease volume
Excessive grease in bearing
Inspect and readjust alignment
Misalignment
Replace bearing
Worn bearing, vibrations
Measure vibration, rebalance impeller if
necessary
Excessive vibration
Deposits on the impeller
Clean
impeller
blades
and
measure
vibration; if necessary, rebalance impeller
Impeller damaged
Replace or rebalance impeller, inspect
position, realign impeller
Misalignment
Check screw connections and retighten;
realign pulleys
Misaligned V-belt pulleys
Replace bearing; measure vibration during
operation; if vibration is high, disconnect the
motor and measure separately
Drive motor does not run smoothly
Contact the manufacturer
Noise
Impeller drags
Inspect position; check screw connections;
retighten if necessary
Incorrect coupling or misalignment
Inspect position; check screw connections,
retighten if necessary, retighten or replace
V-belts
V-belts are making squealing noise
as the are not sufficiently tightened
Complete set
Motor out of balance
Measure vibrations, rebalance motor
Electrical fault at the motor
Contact the manufacturer
Motor overload
Impeller drags
Inspect position, check screw connections
Medium temperature too low
Increase medium temperature at low speed
to design values
Speed to high
Correct speed limit to design value
Incorrect direction of rotation
Change direction of rotation
Fan cannot be started
Power failure
Re-establish power supply
Motor defective
Contact the manufacturer
Impeller jammed, due to deposits
Clean and realign impeller
V-belts too loose or ripped
Retighten or replace V-belts
Motor failure during
start-up
Run-up time too long, due to
insufficient acceleration
Contact the manufacturer
Conveyed flow and
total pressure too low
Unit drag is considerably greater than
expected
Check weather all flaps are fully opened
Incorrect speed
Compare motor type with the data in the
purchase contract
Gas flow affected by
external influence
Inspect gas channel and look out for baffle plates; if the
channel cannot be modified, install guide vanes (straight
intersecting plates) in front of the fan
Excessive
heat
generation at the V-
belt guard
Insufficient ventilation at high belt
performance
Improve ventilation
