reinstall the dipstick. See Figure 10-90.
Prepare the Engine for Operation
The engine is now completely reassembled. Before
starting or operating the engine, be sure to do the
following.
1. Make sure all hardware is tightened securely.
2. Make sure the oil drain plugs, Oil Sentry™
pressure switch, and a new oil
fi
lter are installed.
3. Verify the crankcase has been
fi
lled with the
correct amount, weight, and type of oil. Refer
to oil recommendations and procedures in
the
Safety and General Information
and
Lubrication System
sections.
4. Adjust the idle speed adjusting screw as
necessary. Refer to Section 5,
Electronic Fuel
Injection System
.
5. Turn on fuel supply.
Sensitivity Adjustment
Governor sensitivity is adjusted by repositioning the
governor spring in the holes of the governor lever. If
speed surging occurs with a change in engine load,
the governor is set too sensitive. If a big drop in speed
occurs when normal load is applied, the governor
should be set for greater sensitivity. See Figure 10-92
and adjust as follows:
1. To
increase
the sensitivity, move the spring closer
to the governor lever pivot point.
2. To
decrease
the sensitivity, move the spring away
from the governor lever pivot point.

6. Make sure the O-ring is in place then reinstall the
