6.4.3 BITE (Built In Test Equipment)
6.4.3.1
PM (Performance Monitor)
Using the performance monitor, the degradation of the transmitter, receiver and the
system characteristics can be determined down to –20 dB, in 5 dB steps, on a 4
notched bar graph.

Before using the performance monitor, run the radar for approximately 30 minutes and
then set the radar controls as follows:
GAIN: Maximum (Fully CW position)
SEA: Minimum (Fully CCW position)
RAIN: Minimum (Fully CCW position)
In the following circumstances, the performance monitor may malfunction.
(1) Gain, Sea and Rain controls are not set as above.
(2) Other radar set is operating nearby.
(3) Heavy rain or snow.
6.4.3.2 Using the Performance Monitor
(1) Highlight the PM and press the ENT key.
(2) Press the Joystick down to show the letters ON and press the ENT key. The range
scale is accordingly changed automatically to 24 NM and the Performance Monitor
starts to function.
(3) The results of the performance check will be shown in a bar graph form in the BITE
menu. The tests are carried out to monitor the transmission, reception and overall
system performance degradation in reference to the initial calibrated state. The
calibration notches are graduated every 5 db, readable down to –20 dB as
maximum.

NOTE:
This menu is protected from ordinary operations. To use this function, turn off the
radar first. Press and hold the MODE key and turn the radar on. When the standby condition
is established, turn the radar on to enter the following menu functions.
