(i) below.
i)
With the pressurised indicator extinguished and water in the external tank, the pump should be
running. Check that this is the case by operating appliances. If any appliances are calling for water let
them fill until demand ceases.
j)
NOW, turn VR8 clockwise until the pressurised indicator illuminates. You may turn VR8 up to 5 turns
past this point to ensure pump switch-off on pressurisation but if you turn the control too far the pump
may fail to turn on when the system de-pressurises due to demand. A reasonable overturn would be 1-2
turns clockwise from the PRESSURISED indication point.
k) You must now set-up the
top-up
level. The
top –up
level is set using the adjustment controls
VR4
and
VR7. VR4
sets the
LEVEL SET POINT
and
VR7
sets the
DIFFERENTIAL
between switch on and
switch off. You should be aware that setting VR7 to a minimum (fully clockwise) will only permit for the
introduction of approximately 40mm of water once top-up is initiated as set by VR4. The set points of
VR4 and VR7 are a user choice and are dependent upon usage patterns. You should be aware of the
following points before setting these controls:
i)
If you choose to set the commencement of topping-up at a high level you are less likely to run out of
water during heavy and continuous use as there will be always a considerable volume of water held in
the tank. Setting the top-up point high, however, reduces the tank ullage (the space available above the
storage level) and so you will have reduced volume to store rainwater when it is available.
ii)
If you set the top-up point very low, you increase your chances of running out of water at some time
as the pump can pump water out of the tank faster, in some cases, than the MAINS WATER can
replenish it.
iii)
Bearing (i) and (ii) above in mind, we advise setting the top-up level to approximately the 1/3 full level
and the instructions below will indicate how to achieve this.
iv) If you set VR7 too high you may, under certain circumstances as can be envisioned ( i.e. with a high
top-up switch on point) cause topping up to continue EVEN THOUGH THE TANK IS FULL, causing
water to flow out of the overflow continuously without the level increasing sufficiently to reach the turn-off
point. This will waste considerable water if not detected.
v) If you set VR7 too low, you may find that the system responds to very small level changes as may be
caused by ripples on the water surface during inflow. This can be irritating and can SOUND alarming as
the top-up solenoid switches on and off as the peaks and troughs pass over the depth sensor.
vi) Bearing in mind (iv) and (v) above we advise setting VR7 as indicated in the setting up procedure
below. The user may adjust at will after such setting but giving due thought to the restrictions indicated
above.
l)
To set the top-up level to 30% (1/3 full)
raise the
depth sensor
in the tank until the
level display
indicates 1/3 full, and secure the cable to keep the
sensor
at the required depth. Now locate the
adjustment controls VR4 and VR7. Turn VR7 fully clockwise so that the differential is MINIMUM. Make at
least 15 turns to ensure that the control is set to minimum. Over-turning will do no harm. Now slowly
open the mains water stop-cock feeding the TOP-UP solenoid valve. If water commences running
through the tundish device, adjust the stop-cock to a maximum without causing splashing. Now adjust
VR4 slowly CLOCKWISE to LOWER the top-up switch-on level. The solenoid should switch off at some
point. If the tundish is NOT passing water then adjust VR4 slowly ANTI-CLOCKWISE until it does and
then turn it back CLOCKWISE until it just turns off. You have now set the level switching point
. NOW
LOWER the SENSOR to the bottom of the tank.
m)
To set the DIFFERENTIAL between the switching on and off levels
of the top-up you are advised
to set VR7 between three and five turns ANTI-CLOCKWISE from its FULLY CLOCKWISE point. The
user may adjust this setting later if required.
n)
You have now completed set-up and commissioning. Test all appliances and check to ensure that the
STATUS indicator light, which may have illuminated during set-up, has now extinguished again. If the
STATUS indicator light fails to extinguish within five minutes, switch off the system and go to the
“Troubleshooting” section.
