Introduction to CA8WL-AL
The CA8WL-AL is designed to operate with a PIM400-485 which interfaces with Schlage AD-400 wireless locks.
The CA8WL-AL control unit supports a network (TCP/IP) connection or a direct serial connection (RS-232) to
the server/workstation with the Aurora communication service. If you are using a network connection with
either standard or reverse communication, you must program the CA8WL-AL’s on-board Ethernet module
using the NETCOM Program utility. Programming instructions are reviewed later in this guide.

Important – Inputs, Outputs and Reader Terminals
As the CA8WL-AL is designed solely for use with a PIM400-485 and AD-400 wireless locks, all CA8WL-AL
inputs, outputs and reader terminals are disabled and do not function.
Software Requirements
The CA8WL-AL control unit is compatible with the following Keyscan software:
Aurora – version 1.0.8.0 or higher
If you are operating with a previous version of Keyscan Aurora software you can obtain the latest version at
www.keyscan.ca. The CA8WL-AL is not compatible with any previous generation of Keyscan software.
Powering the CA8WL-AL
The CA8WL-AL single door control unit can be powered from one of the following sources:
network switch with power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities
mid-span PoE injector
+12V DC UL approved power supply
