CAUTION
In order to use the face mask safely and avoid risks it is fundamental that these
instructions and those relative to the filters be clearly understood. Particular
attention is to be paid to warnings, cautions and use limitations.
IMPORTANT:
1. Before using the face mask be sure to understand fully and adhere to all the
instructions herein.
2. Use the face mask only for the purposes stated.
3. Use only original KASCO spare parts for the maintenance of this face mask.
4. Product responsibility for the correct functioning of this face mask is
irrevocably transferred to the owner/end user if:
- The face mask is maintained or repaired by personnel or by service
centres not employed or authorised by Kasco.
- The face mask is used in a manner or for uses not conforming to its
intended use as specified in these instructions.
1. APPLICATION
1.1 Description
Full face mask with black silicone face blank and wide view polycarbonate visor,
threaded connection according to UNI EN 148-1:2000 standard, two inhalation
valves on the internal half mask and an exhalation valve, 5 point harness
attached to the visor.
The face mask comes in three sizes:
- size S (small), described above
- size M (medium) with five harness attachments fixed to the sealing edge
- size L (large), with harness as per size M
In order to protect the respiratory system effectively, the mask is to be equipped
with filters/cartridges manufactured by KASCO only.
.
The ZENITH1 (P/N 1005009) is supplied in the following versions:

The full face mask is composed of materials which make it suitable for use in
explosive atmospheres.
The full face mask may also be used as a component of power assisted filtering
devices (PAPR). (See relative respirator composition chart and User
Instructions).
1.2 Function
Breathable, filtered, air passes through the inhalation valves to the inside of the
visor.
The filtered air flows over the visor minimising visor misting then passes through
check valves to the inner mask.
Exhaled air is expelled through the exhalation valve.
1.3 Reference standards
The full face mask is designed to and complies with the requirements of the
technical standard EN136:1998 and meets the performance requirements laid
down therein.
1.4 Use
The full face mask, with the limitations specified at clause 1.6, may be used
exclusively for respiratory protection against gases and/or liquid and solid
aerosols. See filter/cartridge instructions for permissible concentrations.
1.5 Protection factor
The full face mask protection factor is determined by; the face mask seal, the
filter protection class, the state of conservation and maintenance of the face
mask.
1.6 Use Limitations
Do not use the face mask if:
the nature and concentration of the contaminant present in the atmosphere
is not known.
the concentration of the contaminant in the atmosphere exceeds the filter
protection class limits (See filter use instructions).
the type of contaminant is not provided for by the type of filter.
the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere is lower than 17% in volume.
in closed work locations (ex. tanks, duct, silos underground locations) and
fresh air delivery systems are not available.
Use limitations for PAPR’s may be found in relative Use Instructions
.
1.7 Cautions
The full face mask is to be used only by workers:
who have been trained on the use of respiratory protective devices.
who do not have respiratory problems or an impaired sense of smell.
who do not have sideburns, a beard and/or a moustache as these will
hinder a good face mask seal.
Who do not use eyewear.
Do not use the face mask:
if it has not been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
if it has failed the face seal tightness test.
if there is a doubt that parts are missing and/or one or more parts look
defective.
if there is no evidence of period maintenance.
with oxygen cylinders or in oxygen enriched atmospheres.
Return to fresh, clean air immediately and remove face mask in the case:
of uncommon smell or taste.
of unjustified or sudden irritation of the nose or throat .
of inhaled air becoming extremely hot.
dizziness, nausea or headaches occur.
2. CLASSIFICATION
Full face mask for special uses : CLASS 3
3. INSPECTION
Before using the face mask make sure that:
it is clean and disinfected and does not present evident defects.
there are no parts missing.
the inhalation and exhalation valves have been properly inserted.
the filter sealing gasket is properly housed.
4. DONNING AND FITTING
4.1 Donning
Don the face mask before entering the contaminated area.
Release the strap buckles and pull the straps through as far as they will go.
Spread out the two lateral straps.
Slip carrying strap around neck and position chin in the chin support.
Position face mask against the face, pass the harness over the head and
pull straps back in the following sequence: cheek straps, temple straps,
forehead strap.
The ideal position of the mask against the face is obtained when, without
excessive pulling, the mask fits snugly and the seal provides an even pressure
distribution over the entire area in contact with the face.
4.2 Seal Tightness test
After having donned the mask and obtained a good fit press the palm of your
hand over the threaded connector and inhale slightly in order to generate
negative pressure. Hold your breath for a second and if no air leaks are detected
a good fit has been obtained. If air leaks are detected pull straps tighter and
repeat test. If leakage persists reposition the face mask as described at point 4.1
and 4.2 and repeat seal tightness test.
4.3 Exhalation valve test
Cover the threaded connector with the palm of your hand and exhale. Exhaled
air should flow out of the mask without appreciable resistance.
5 USE
5.1 Aplication:
Some of the uses for which the protective device, equipped with proper filter, has
been designed:
• Asbestos reclamation and abatement: removal of untreated and dry asbestos
coverings; asbestos handling and disposal; glass production activities,
means of transport gaskets.
• Chemistry and pharmaceuticals: powder formulation, chemical formulations and
special pastes; biological risk and infectious diseases.
• Construction, building and renovation: Concrete, cement, stone, masonry and
plaster handling / cutting / smoothing / grinding /drilling; Surface painting
and coating; restructuring; controlled demolition.
• Waste management: Handling and disposal of waste; Decontamination; Waste
removal.
• Metal working: Machining and scraping.
• Woodworking: cutting / planing / drilling; scraping and sanding.
Glass fibers and minerals processing: Mineral tile laying; Spraying operations;
Mineral extractions and marble work.
Maintenance: Disinfection and cleaning with acids, aldehydes.
Spray painting and sandblasting: Powder coating; Spraying / latex painting;
Wet or dry sandblasting.
5.2 Instructions:
Screw on proper filters only after the mask has been tested and has passed the
seal tightness test.
The use of the mask is determined by the type and model of filter used. Follow
the filter Use Instructions packed with filters and, in any case, leave the area
immediately if smell or taste of the contaminant is detected or if breathing
becomes more difficult.
For use in extreme conditions adhere to the following cautions:
In the case of extremely low temperatures treat visor with an anti-misting
liquid (compatible with the eyes and skin and which will not damage rubber
and plastic) and regularly check the exhalation valve diaphragm as it could
harden resulting in possible leakage.
