Then select «E.COL.» and push «ENTER» and observe how the collector is emptied
and push «ESC» to stop the emptying function.
Run this warm-up operation, also, if the unit is 2 or 3 hours without distillation.
This procedure is also used for cleaning the distillation circuit.
6.3 Distillation (Sample analysis)
Please follow these steps: (on the same order as indicated)
• Open the safety door.
• Check visually that on the collector do not remain rests of the previous analy
-
sis. If necessary, empty from the «TEST» menu. (See 5.1.1 to adjust emptying
time)
• Insert the sample tube. See 5.2
• From the «MAIN MENU» select «OPERATION». If necessary modify the NaOH
volume and the HCl normality.
• Select «START» and push «ENTER»
• The PRO-NITRO “A” run the following steps automatically:
•
Dispense fixative solution on the collector.
•
Initiates sample distillation.
•
NaOH addition to sample.
•
After 1.5 minutes the automatic titration is initiated.
•
The digital dispenser adds HCl on the collector until the colour change is
produced (from green to red). The detected nitrogen is shown on the display.
•
Once the red colour is permanent on the collector, the analyser stops the
analysis.
•
It empties the collector.
•
It empties part of the sample tube.
• Open the safety door.
• Remove the sample tube. See 5.3
• Check, visually, that the collector remains completely emptied after the analy
-
sis. If some rests remains, push the arrow key «
» for empty operation. (See
5.1.1 to adjust emptying time)
• The unit is completely prepared to analyse the following sample. Any cleaning
operation is needed, unless any malfunction has occurred during the analysis.
Visual Checking during the analysis:
Some visual checking can be applied from the colour that takes the solution on the
collector or in the sample tube.
This checking is useful at the beginning to set the optimal parameters or to solve
unit malfunctions.
Visual Checking on the sample tube:
When the NaOH volume is sufficient, the sample becomes blue. (If not, program
more NaOH on the following analysis)
Visual Checking on the collector:
The initial colour must be the fixative solution colour (Red). If it is grey or green, it
is because there are not neutralized rests of the previous sample remaining on the
collector. In this case, stop the analysis and run a cleaning operation. See 6.2
At the end of the analysis
check, visually, through the
collector window, that it is
completely empty.
