SECTION 8 LP GAS SYSTEM

8 - LP SYSTEM
LP GAS SUPPLY
The LP gas system supplies fuel for the range,
water heater, furnace and refrigerator (while in
gas mode). When used and handled properly, this
system is safe and economical and provides
modern living conveniences wherever you travel.
How LP Gas Works
LP (Liquified Petroleum) gas is a true gas
compressed into liquid form for easy transporta-
tion and storage. LP gas is available in two types
- propane and butane. It is also called tank gas,
bottle gas, or simply LP.
LP is used by appliances in vapor form only,
but is stored in the tank as a liquid under very
high pressure. As the liquid gas is released, it
reverts back to a vapor and expands to many
times its compressed volume.
LP Tank System
The storage reservoir for the LP gas system is
a horizontally mounted tank which is perma-
nently attached to the vehicle frame. The tank is
accessible only from the outside of the vehicle.
The tank supply valve is located near the top
center of the tank, next to the regulator. Before
opening the supply valve, check to be sure all
controls for gas appliances are in the “Off” or
“Pilot Off” position. If this step is not performed,
LP gas could accumulate inside the motor home
creating a fire or explosion hazard.
LP GAS WARNINGS AND
PRECAUTIONS
•
All pilot lights must be extinguished and ap-
pliances turned off while refilling the fuel
tank or LP tank.
•
Never smoke while refilling vehicle fuel tank
or LP gas tank.
•
Avoid inhaling exhaust gases produced by
burned gasoline, diesel fuel or LP gas in
items such as the range, chassis engine, gen-
erator engine, refrigerator, furnace and water
heater. They contain carbon monoxide,
which is an odorless, colorless and poisonous
gas.
•
Do not bring or store LP gas containers, gas-
oline or other flammable liquids inside the
vehicle because a fire or explosion may re-
sult. LP gas containers are equipped with
Do not
alter or remove LP tank gauge
at any time.
