WaveBook/512 and WaveBook/512H
Connecting the Communication Cable
WaveBook communicates with a notebook or desktop PC through the computer’s parallel port. Use of an
Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) or an Extended Capabilities Port (ECP) is recommended.
Two card options are available for use with PCs that do not have Enhanced Parallel Ports. These are:
•
WBK20A PCMCIA/EPP interface-card, to be used in conjunction with
a notebook’s PC-Card port.
•
WBK21 ISA/EPP interface-card, for use with a desktop PC.
A 2-foot CA-35-2, or a 6-foot CA-35-6 communication cable is used to connect the WaveBook to the host
PC. The connection is made via a 25-pin connector labeled “TO COMPUTER,” and located on
WaveBook’s rear panel. The other end of the cable connects the computer’s PC Parallel Port.
To ensure EPP speeds are properly handled, it is important that WaveBook systems make
use of a 1284-compliant cable. Standard parallel cables will not work properly, primarily
due to a lack of shielding. Note that cables CA-35-2 and CA-35-6 are
1284-compliant. These are 2 and 6 foot cables, respectively.
