The certification of a wiring system attests to the quality of the components and the installation. Ingeteam
establishes the certification of the data wiring itself as necessary.
2.5. Operating modes
Below we will briefly explain the operating modes offered by these communications cards.
2.5.1. Ethernet-serial gateway
This mode allows for the firmware update, status view, configuration, history download of the installation’s
inverters, etc. For this, the card listens at port 7128.
2.5.2. Modbus-TCP
Most SCADA systems based on Ethernet communication use the Modbus-TCP protocol as standard. However, the
final communication with Ingeteam inverters is performed by RS-485 using the Modbus-RTU protocol.
In Modbus-TCP mode these cards work as Modbus-TCP and Modbus-RTU protocol translators and also perform
conversion between Ethernet and RS-485 communication media.
The following figure shows the flow of standard communications on a Modbus-TCP request from a SCADA.

On the Modbus-TCP mode, the card listens to the requests in port 502 (standard Modbus-TCP). Each request (1)
is converted to Modbus-RTU and is sent through the serial interface (2). Then the unit response (3) is reversed
from Modbus-RTU to Modbus-TCP and is finally sent to the Modbus-TCP client (4).
When designing an Ethernet communications system via the Modbus-TCP protocol, we must keep the following
points in mind.
