The page includes the following fields:
Object
Description
Delete
Select this check box to delete a private VLAN entry. The entry will be
deleted during the next save.
Private VLAN ID
Indicates the ID of this particular private VLAN.
Port Members
A row of check boxes for each port is displayed for each private
VLAN ID. To include a port in a Private VLAN, select the check box.
To remove or exclude the port from the private VLAN, make sure the
box is deselected. By default, no ports are members, and all boxes
are deselected.
Adding a New Private VLAN
Click
Add
New Private VLAN
to add a new private VLAN ID. An
empty row is added to the table, and the private VLAN can be
configured as needed. The allowed range for a private VLAN ID is the
same as the switch port number range. Any values outside this range
are not accepted, and a warning message appears. Click
OK
to
discard the incorrect entry, or click
Cancel
to return to the editing and
make a correction.
The private VLAN is enabled when you click
Save
.
The
Delete
button can be used to undo the addition of new Private
VLANs.
Buttons
• Select
Add new Private VLAN
from the
Static
drop-down list.
• Select the
Auto-refresh
check box to refresh the page automatically. Automatic
refresh occurs every three seconds.
• Click
Save
to save changes.
• Click
Reset
to undo any changes made locally and revert to previously saved
values.
• Click
Refresh
to refresh the page immediately.
Port isolation
When a VLAN is configured to be a private VLAN, communication between ports within
that VLAN can be prevented. Two application examples are provided in this section:
• Customers connected to an ISP can be members of the same VLAN, but they are
not allowed to communicate with each other within that VLAN.
• Servers in a farm of web servers in a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) are allowed to
communicate with the outside world and with database servers on the inside
segment, but are not allowed to communicate with each other.
