Installing
an
adapter
To
install
an
adapter,
complete
the
following
steps.
Rear adapter
retention
bracket
Front adapter
retention
bracket
Expansion slot
cover
1.
Follow
the
cabling
instructions,
if
any,
that
come
with
the
adapter.
Route
the
adapter
cables
before
you
install
the
adapter.
2.
Follow
the
instructions
that
come
with
the
adapter
to
set
jumpers
or
switches,
if
any.
3.
Touch
the
static-protective
package
that
contains
the
adapter
to
any
unpainted
metal
surface
on
the
server.
Then,
remove
the
adapter
from
the
static-protective
package.
Avoid
touching
the
components
and
gold-edge
connectors
on
the
adapter.
4.
Carefully
grasp
the
adapter
by
the
top
edge
or
upper
corners,
and
align
it
with
the
expansion
slot
guides;
then,
press
the
adapter
firmly
into
the
expansion
slot.
Move
the
adapter
directly
from
the
static-protective
package
to
the
expansion
slot.
5.
Rotate
the
front
adapter
bracket
downward
into
the
server.
6.
Close
the
rear
adapter
retainer
bracket.
7.
Connect
any
required
cables
to
the
adapter.
Route
cables
so
that
they
do
not
block
the
flow
of
air
from
the
fans.

installing
an
optional
SCSI
adapter,
see
the
User’s
Guide
for
additional
information
about
cabling
a
SCSI
adapter.
8.
Install
the
cover
(see
“Installing
the
cover”
on
page
62).
9.
Reconnect
the
external
cables
and
power
cords
to
the
server;
then,
connect
the
power
cords
to
electrical
outlets.
10.
Turn
on
the
attached
devices;
then,
turn
on
the
server.
