Serial-to-Telnet redirection
Serial-to-Telnet redirection enables a system administrator to use the Remote
Supervisor Adapter II as a serial terminal server. Either one or both serial ports
can be accessed from a Telnet connection when serial redirection is enabled.
Complete the following steps to set up the hardware connections to configure
the Remote Supervisor Adapter II for serial-to-Telnet redirection with CLI
disabled:
1. Connect the Remote Supervisor Adapter II serial connector labeled COM2
to the server serial connector.
2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the Remote Supervisor Adapter II Ethernet
connector.
3. Configure the serial ports using the Remote Supervisor Adapter II Web
interface. For more information, see the User’s Guide .

Obtaining Remote Supervisor Adapter II software and
firmware
Before you can continue the installation and configuration of the Remote
Supervisor Adapter II, you must download software and firmware from the
IBM Support Web site. This section describes how to download the files from
the Web site. Which files you need to download depends on your server type
and operating system.
Note: Changes are made periodically to the IBM Support Web site to provide
timely customer information and better navigation. The search methods
in the following procedures are suggestions. You might need to modify
the search process depending on the Web page design.
For Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003
If the server in which the Remote Supervisor Adapter II is installed is running
the Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating system, you
will need to download one file, which contains the following software and
firmware:

Software and firmware installation instructions
v
Video adapter basic input/output system (BIOS) update
v
ERserver
xSeries BIOS update with support for the Remote Supervisor
Adapter II
v Diagnostics code update
v
