Connecting the ASM breakout cable with one serial
connector
Note: If your Remote Supervisor Adapter II came with the ASM breakout
cable with dual serial connectors, go to “Connecting the ASM breakout
cable with dual serial connectors” on page 20. Otherwise, follow the
procedures in this section.
The ASM breakout cable with one serial connector connects the Remote
Supervisor Adapter II to a modem through the serial connector. or to the ASM
interconnect network through the ASM RS-485 connectors.
Note: Connecting a modem to the Remote Supervisor Adapter II using the
ASM breakout cable with one serial connector provides dial-out support
only.
The following illustration shows how to connect the ASM breakout cable to the
ASM connector on a Remote Supervisor Adapter II installed in a tower model
server.

Serial connector
To connect the Remote Supervisor Adapter II to an ASM interconnect network,
connect a Category 3 or Category 5 cable to one of the ASM RS-485 connectors
on the ASM breakout cable. For more information, see Chapter 3, “Using the
ASM interconnect network,” on page 27.
To connect the Remote Supervisor Adapter II to a modem, connect the modem
to the serial connector on the ASM breakout cable.
