Error Messages
POST Message Description
2462 An error occurred during testing of the video controller. This
error can be caused by a failing monitor, system board, or
video adapter.
Action: Verify that the monitor is connected correctly to the
video adapter or video connector. If it is, have the monitor
and system serviced.
Note: Some video adapters come with an additional
diagnostic diskette. If you installed a video adapter
that came with an additional diagnostic package, refer
to the information in that package.
8601
8603 An error occurred during testing of the pointing device (for
example, a mouse or track ball) and pointing device
controller. This error can be caused by the pointing device or
by a failing system board.
Note: This error also can occur if electrical power was lost for
a very brief period and then restored. In this case, turn
off the system for at least 5 seconds; then turn it on.
Action: Ensure the keyboard and pointing device are attached
to the correct ports. If they are attached correctly, use the
following procedure:
1. Turn off the system.
2. Disconnect the pointing device from the system.
3. Turn on the system.
If the error message does not reappear, the pointing device is
probably failing. See the documentation that came with the
pointing device for additional testing information. If the
problem remains, have the pointing device serviced.
If the error message reappears, start the system programs and
run the Test the Computer program to determine the cause of
the problem and the action to take. If the problem remains,
have the system serviced.

9990301 An error occurred while reading the fixed boot sector.
Other Numbers The power-on self-test (POST) routine found an error.
Action: Follow the instructions on the screen.
