Microprocessor speed switches settings:
When you replace a microprocessor with one that has a
different speed
8 , you must change the switch settings on
the system board.
Before you begin:
Ÿ
Read “Safety information” on page 210.
Ÿ
Power-off the server and all other connected
devices.
Ÿ
Disconnect all external cables attached to the
server; then, remove the server cover.
Ÿ
Locate the Flash Utility Diskette that you created
in “Remote administration” on page 35.
Note
If you have not already done so, go to
http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ on the World Wide
Web and download the appropriate flash update
program. Review the applicable README files, and
use this information to create a
Flash Utility Diskette.
Perform the POST/BIOS (flash) update procedure (see
“Remote administration” on page 35 for additional
information).
1. Locate the configuration switches (also known as
rocker switches) on the system board. For more
information, refer to the label inside the server, or see
“System board illustration” on page 141.
2. To set the appropriate microprocessor speed, set
switches 1 to 4 as shown in Table 8 on page 154. It
might be helpful to use the end of a small screwdriver
to set the switch.
Note
Switches 5 to 8 are not used for microprocessor
speed settings.
Attention
Before you change the settings for switches 1
through 4, be sure that you check the orientation
of the server system board to correctly identify
the switch number locations. If you change the
settings for the wrong switches, you might
seriously damage server components or options.
The correct switch settings for your system board
were set at the factory. If you change the switches to
8 MHz denotes internal clock speed of the microprocessor only;
other factors also affect application performance.
