FID EC: Drive Servo Card and FID E9: Mother Board
Removal of the Drive Servo Card and Mother Board:
ATTENTION
The head-actuator assembly and logic cards are ESD sensitive. Special care must be
used when handling ESD sensitive parts to be sure that no ESD damage occurs. See
“Working with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Parts” on page PROC-3 for details.
DO NOT USE ANY MAGNETIZED TOOLS ON OR NEAR THE HEAD ASSEMBLY (INCLUDING
THIN FILM CABLES). MAGNETIZED TOOLS WILL DAMAGE THE HEAD!
Because of limited removal space and obstructions in the drive pack, the drive servo card and mother
board should be removed together before either is replaced.
See Figure 317 on page APPENDD-14, item
8
for location of the drive servo card and item
11
for the
mother board.
To remove the drive servo card and mother board follow the steps below if not done before:
1. Perform the prerequisite procedures for your 3570 model listed on Figure 316 on page APPENDD-13.
2. Perform removal of the “FID EA: Drive Logic Card” on page APPENDD-15.
3. Refer to Figure 318 on page APPENDD-19 and perform removal of the “FID EB: Drive Analog Card”
on page APPENDD-18.
4. The order in which the head cables are removed should be maintained when they are re-installed.
The proper order to reinstall is:
a. Item
15
b. Item
5
5. The small rubber compression block, item
6
, located between the head-actuator assembly thin film
cables and the metallic shield must go back in the same orientation that it was removed. The rubber
portion must be up, and the elongated hole must be to the rear of the drive. as shown in
Figure 318 on page APPENDD-19.
6. Remove the flat head cables, items
5
and
15
, rubber compression block, item
6
, and metal
shield, item
7
.
7. Disconnect the four cables that run from the loader assembly to the drive servo card.
8. Disconnect the cable going to the IPS Sensor on the head actuator assembly. (You may need to
remove the mother board to access the cable.)
9. Tilt the drive unit up so that the bottom of the bottom loader plate, item
9
is showing. Refer to
Figure 325 on page APPENDD-29, and remove two screws, item
1
, from the bottom of the loader
plate.
10. Refer back to Figure 317 on page APPENDD-14 and remove the remaining screw, item
14
that
secures the drive servo card and mother board to the bottom loader plate.
11. Remove the drive servo card and mother board together.
12. Remove the drive servo card from the mother board.
Note: You may need to lightly pry the card away from the mother board connector, item
11
at each
end of the connector to loosen the drive servo card for removal.
