Drive Serial Number—Library Models Only
1. Switch to CE mode by pressing the Mode Change push-button.
2. If you are working on a 2-drive library, select the drive number you are working on.
3. Select the CONFIG/INSTALL option.
4. Select the DRV SERIAL NO option.
5. Select the DISP SERIAL NO option to display the current drive serial number stored in VPD memory.
The serial number will display in the ASCII format:
nnnnn (Where nnnnn are decimal numbers.)
Note: The default value for a new card pack is set by the factory to:
SequenceNum
6. Select CANCEL to return to the CE DRV SER NO menu.
7. Select the ALTER SERIAL N option.
The VPD FIELD OFFSET menu will appear and the display will show the hex values for offsets 000
through 00B. It will be necessary to scroll the cursor up or down to see all of the offset locations.
All of the VPD offset field data is displayed and entered in hex. (See Figure 257 on page PROC-30
for a conversion chart.)
An example of a five digit (ASCII) serial number (53912) is shown below on the left, and the default
value (SequenceNum ), as set by the factory, is shown on the right.

Offset fields 000 through 006 are always set to hex 30 (ASCII 0), and the 5 character serial number is
entered into offsets 007 through 00B.
8. Select offset 000.
The CE VPD DATA menu will appear and the display will show, vertically, the 4 bytes (8 hex digits) for
offsets 000 through 003. It will be necessary to scroll the cursor up or down to see all 8 of the hex
digits for these 4 offset locations.
The menu displays the first 4 bytes (8 digits) of the serial number vertically as follows:
