Appendix C. Adding and Removing Drawers and Racks
If you have existing 7133 model 20 or D40 drawers and would like to attach to an
ESS, specify feature code 1121 for the first 2105 model 100 and 1122 for the
second 2105 model 100. Each of the 2105 with feature code 1121 or 1122 will have
appropriate hardware and cables to allow attachment of six 7133 drawers model 20
or D40 to an ESS.
7133 Drawers must not have:
v
48 volt power supply input
v
DDM locks
v
Front cover
Ensure that the drawers meet minimum hardware requirements:
v
Three power supplies for 7133 model 20 and two power supplies for 7133 model
D40.
v
4.5, 9.1, 18.2, or 36.4 GB DDMs
v
16 DDMs in each drawer that are all the same capacity and same RPM.
v
SSA cables are provided in the FC 1121 and 1122 ship group

Drawer Placement
The ESS supports up to twelve 7133 drawers, with up to six 7133 drawers in each
of the two Model 100 racks.
Existing drawers must be placed in a factory new Model 100 rack. This ensures the
power systems will be fully compatible. Feature code 1000, battery back-up, is
required. The Model 100 racks will be populated from the bottom to the top, so that
the center of gravity remains low ensuring better stability. See 7133 Model 20, and
D40 .
Note: Prior to relocating a drawer to an ESS rack, you must backup critical data.
You lose all existing data during ESS installation configuration and
reformatting.
IBM will charge you for these services against 7133 relocation. All parts that the
service representative removes are your property.
After you have met the compatibility requirements, the 7133 drawers are installed
and configured by a customer engineer. The customer engineer follows the
instructions in the

7133 Model 20 Requirements
Your Model 20 drawer must meet the following requirements before a service
representative can install it in a ESS.

The Model 20 drawer must have 16 DDMs that are all the same capacity and
RPM, either 4.5 or 9.1 GB DDM . 18.2GB and 36.4GB DDM’s are not supported
in the 7133 Model 20.
