7. The code will download onto the C: drive into the directory folder you have specified. You may want to
compress and copy this code to a diskette for future use.
Downloading microcode from your computer into the flash memory
Attention:
Print the Custom Set Information using the Test key and Print Custom Set function. Mark the
printout as “Before”.
You will need this printout to restore the customer’s printer configuration after downloading the new code.
The base code is stored as a binary file. The binary file can be copied into printer flash memory as follows:
1. Connect the parallel data cable to the default parallel port (LPT1) of a PC and to the parallel port of the
4247 Model V03 printer.
2. Read the following before turning on the printer:
a. Press and hold the Start and Cancel keys while turning on the printer.
b. Release the keys when the printer LCD shows the message:
WAITING CODE DOWNLOAD
USING PARALLEL PORT
If the message does not appear, it means that the flash BIOS sector is damaged and the code can not be
loaded. A hardware failure is the most probable cause. Turn off the printer.
3. At the DOS command prompt on the PC type:
copy xxxxxxx.bin lpt1: /b
where
xxxxx.bin
is the filename of the binary file.
4. Press Enter.
This command copies the code into the flash memory. If the binary file is not the right one, The following
message appears:
INVALID CODE
