4.1 Overview

The MA5606T provides two means for management, maintenance and monitoring of the
equipment:

Management through the CLI, where two modes are available:

−

Local or remote maintenance through a serial port connection

−

Remote maintenance over a Telnet session

Management through the EMS based on SNMP, where two modes are available:

−

Inband mode

−

Outband mode

4.2 Management Through the CLI

In the CLI mode, you can manage and maintain the MA5606T after logging in to it through a
serial port or a network port.

4.2.1 Running Environment

The CLI is based on terminal programs such as Telnet and HyperTerminal provided by
operating systems.

To maintain the MA5606T through a serial port connection, use the HyperTerminal
program on the Windows operating system (OS).

To maintain the MA5606T through a Telnet session, use the Telnet client software.

The CLI-based management can be performed without additional EMS software.

4.2.2 Characteristics

CLI-based management has the following characteristics:

Local maintenance and remote maintenance

Hierarchical protection to prevent unauthorized access and operations

Up to four login users at the same time through Telnet

Helpful help information

Rich commands and prompts

Multi-language display of commands

Retrieval of history commands

Intelligent command match
