Installation Procedures 

5. Installing AC Power Supplies 

The Switch 8108fl is shipped with a single AC power supply; the Switch 8116fl 
is shipped with two AC power supplies. Extra slots are provided in the front 
of each chassis for the use of additional (optional) redundant power supplies: 
one in the Switch 8108fl and two in the Switch 8116fl. 

This section explains how to install one or more AC power supplies in the 
chassis. It is recommended that you complete installation of the switch 
modules before turning the power on to verify the installation (see 

page 2-29

). 

C a u t i o n s    

Observe the following precautions when installing a power supply in your 
switch: 

■

  

Take into consideration the ratings on power supplies when connecting 
them to your supply circuits. Overloading circuits can destroy overcurrent 
protection as well as supply wiring. 

■

  

Use a single-phase grounded AC power source located within 6 feet (1.89 
meters) of the installation site. 

■

  

Use only certified and suitable power cables and plug assemblies for your 
location. 

■

  

Do not cover the power supply inlet or exhaust vent. 

■

  

High leakage current can be caused by multiple power supplies. For this 
reason, it is essential that each power cable be connected to separate 
branch circuits with proper earth connections.
