Copy Protection
Digital media content that is purchased on the
Internet may have restricted access depending on
the terms agreed to when you purchased the files.
This protects copyrighted media files from being
illegally copied and used.
You can record music or video files, but some files
may retain copy protection such as digital rights
management (DRM). DRM encrypts digital media
content and limits access to people who have a
license to play the content.
For more detailed information about digital rights
management, you can go to:
http://www.microsoft.com
Copy protection for DVD movies
Most DVD movies in the market are encrypted with
copy protection to prevent illegal duplication of
copyrighted material. This protection distorts the
picture quality when copied or prevents it from
being copied.
Copy protection for music files
The first time you try to copy a music CD in Media
Center or Windows Media Player, a copy protection
setting window appears. When you burn a music
CD in Windows Media Player, an option to turn
DRM on or off appears. If you keep it turned on, the
music cannot be played on another PC. It can only
be played on the original PC. If DRM is turned off,
you can play your music on other PCs.
n
Digital music and
video providers may
have playback
restrictions for
downloaded
media files.
