Features
The HP Network Printer Installer v2.0 is designed for
operation on Windows NT 4.0 and requires TCP/IP.
When installed on a Windows NT 4.0 computer, the
HP Network Printer Installer v2.0 provides the
following optional features:

Automatic recognition of a new printer on the
network.
■
Two modes for printer installation are available:
■
Interactive – when a printer is selected for
installation, a printer set-up wizard is displayed
to allow the user to customize the printer's
installation settings (such as: driver, port, share,
IP address, etc.).
■
Automatic – when a printer is connected to the
network and assigned an IP address, the follow-
ing actions occur:
■
A new printer driver will be installed if one
does not already exist. This is an interactive
process.
■
A port will be created.
■
A share will be created.
■
The printer will be added to the Printers
folder.
■
Point and Print support (Microsoft’s automatic
printer driver download feature) is provided for
Windows 95/98 and Windows NT clients.
■
E-mail notification is available:
■
The software can send an e-mail message to the
administrator if intervention is required to install
a printer.
■
The administrator can configure the software to
send an e-mail message to notify clients that a
printer is available for installation. The message
includes an attachment to run the install pro-
gram on client machines.
■
The HP Network Printer Installer v2.0 can be
configured to match the network configuration.
■
The service can be installed on multiple servers
per subnet.
■
Each service can support multiple ranges of IP
addresses.
■
A range of IP addresses can be assigned a name
prefix, such as “B1_” so that all printers and
shares in that range will automatically be
assigned consistent names.
