IR(PI)8M - Installation Instructions (ENGLISH)
Passive Infrared Wireless Detector

Introduction

This volumetric sensor uses infrared passive technology, and is part of
the range of radio peripherals used with Domonial control panels. It
can also be used with radio modules on Galaxy Dimension, G2
(C077/79) and Vista (5882EUHS) panels.

Tamper protection

The IR(PI)8M is equipped with normally-closed cover and wall
tampers. These tampers open when the cover is opened or the sensor
is pulled from the wall, causing the sensor to send a tamper fault signal
to the control panel.

Mounting location (figure 1)

Establish a clear line of sight from the sensor to the protected area.

  Avoid direct or reflected sunlight.

Ensure that the most likely intruder routes are well within the

sensor’s detection zones, and that walk-testing is carried out along
those routes. The sensor’s range varies with clothing types,
backgrounds and ambient temperature.

To create a pet immune installation (IRPI8M only),

mount the

sensor where pets cannot come within 1.80 m (6 feet) of the sensor,
even if they climb on furniture, boxes or other objects.

Note: Environmental differences and the amount of heat radiated by an
animal affect the animal immunity levels of the sensor. Test each
installation to determine the exact level of animal immunity attainable.

Mounting

Quick install (with wall mount)

WARNING:

For conformity to EN50131-2-2 and NF&A2P, the

detector must be installed without a wall mount.

Use this process to mount your device with the minimum number of
steps, and without having to open the product.
1.  Fix the wall mount to the wall, either flat or in a corner using the

appropriate set of mounting holes (figure 2).

2.  Push the top of the sensor firmly onto the wall mount to break the

knock-out (figure 2), and then slide the sensor down into position.

EN50131/NF&A2P conformity

IMPORTANT: To comply with EN50131-2-2 and NF&A2P follow these
rules: (i) install at 2.30 m, (ii) set the sensitivity to high, (iii) secure the
front cover with a screw (supplied), (iv) use the corner mount kit (for
corner mounting) or a tamper screw (for flat mounting) to close the wall
tamper, (v) do not use the wall mount or a swivel mount.
1.  Use one of these mounting methods:

Fix the corner mount kit onto the wall using two screws (figure 3).

Install a tamper screw in the wall so that it protrudes

approximately 6 mm (0.25") above the mounting surface
(figure 4).

2.  Open the sensor (figure 5), and remove the printed circuit from the

sensor base (figure 6).

3.  Screw the sensor base (figure 7) onto the wall over the tamper

screw using the holes marked (A), or screw it over the corner mount
kit using the holes marked (B).

4.  Replace the printed circuit and ensure the tamper screw or the

corner mount kit tab depresses the tamper lever. Leave the cover
off until later.

LED operation

The LED is enabled by default but can be disabled by keeping the
tamper closed as you insert the battery. Even when set to disabled, the
LED remains active during the walk test.

Note: If registered on G2 or Vista, the LED blinks twice upon alarm.

Device configuration

The radio protocol and the detection sensitivity of the sensor can be
configured with a DIP switch (figure 8). The DIP switch is located inside
the device on the printed circuit. To open the device see figure 5.

Note: For pet immune installation set the sensor to the low or lowest

Power up

Note: Ensure that the device is configured before you power it up.

To power up the device, pull the plastic tab as shown in figure 9.

Registering the sensor

Registration is the procedure that associates the detector with the
control panel. For Domonial, you need a PDA, computer or Blackberry
and the programming software tool, or you can use the TCU keypad.
The complete procedure is described in the user manuals for these
tools.

Note: Always register a sensor in its final position and ensure there is a
minimum signal level of 2/10.

1.  Connect the programming software tool to the control panel and

enter programming mode.

2.  Select Add New Device.
3.  Activate the sensor’s tamper switch or if you used the quick install

method, remove and re-fit the unit to the wall mount. A confirmation
message appears after several seconds, indicating registration of
the sensor at the control panel, together with the radio signal level
and the serial number of the device.

4.  Select the function mode and the label etc.
5.  Replace the front cover and attach it with the fixing screw supplied.

Walk-test mode

After power up

& warm-up

(which can take up to 2min 50s), and once

the cover tamper is closed, the sensor automatically enters walk test
mode for approximately 10 minutes. During walk test the LED remains
active and each detection results in an alarm signal being sent. To
restart the 10 minute period, operate the tamper switch by opening and
closing the cover.

Battery replacement

The sensor signals a battery failure to the control panel and locally with
the LED (slow blinking) and. After a battery failure the sensor will
continue to operate for up to one week. Batteries should be replaced
as soon as possible.

BATTERY REMOVAL AND HANDLING SAFETY WARNING

Risk of fire, explosion and burns. Do not recharge, disassemble, heat
above 100°C, or incinerate the battery. While the battery can normally
be safely removed by hand, ensure the battery terminals are not
shorted, and avoid damaging the battery during the removal process.
Comply with the applicable national and local regulations when
disposing of. In the event of the battery being damaged, use personal
protective equipment to remove it immediately, and dispose of it in a
safe manner (refer to the battery manufacturer’s specifications for such
situations).
