7. Using only your hands (without using the strip tool ) strip away the appropriate portions/layers of
the cable.
8. Examine the resulting cuts. The various layers, as illustrated below, should now be exposed.

If you do not see the three distinct layers of cable, snip off the end with wire cutters, and repeat
the entire cable-stripping process.

If stripping problems persist, the strip tool may need adjustment. In this case, refer to
in this Guide.
9. If you are using:
l
FEP cable, go to Step 10 before completing Step 11.
l
PVC cable, skip Step 10, and go to Step 11.
10. For plenum FEP cable, cut off an additional 3.1 mm (approximately 1/8 in) of the outer sheath with
the knife from the toolkit.
