If the resistance reading indicates:
l
there is
no short, go to Step 2.
l
that a
short exists, inspect the ends of the cable for short circuits. If you are unable to locate a
short, replace the trunk-cable section.
2. Connect a temporary short between the center conductor and the shield at one end of the cable.
3. At the other end of the cable, use an ohmmeter or continuity tester to test for electrical continuity.
If the resistance reading indicates:

there is
no short, discard the trunk-cable section.
l
that a
short exists, proceed with connector installation on that section of trunk-cable.

Attaching connectors to the cable
CAUTION
Many network problems are due to improperly installed connectors. You should have tight-fitting
connectors on the ends of all your trunk cables. If it is loose or comes off, snip off the connector
and install a new one.
