Mounting the sensors :
Type MC4 :
The sensor must be mounted exactly in the center under the
magnetic compass. Therefore a special bracket is included,
which must be sticked to the glass at the bottomside of the
compass. The bracket is supplied with special double sided
adhesive tape to ensure maximum contact.
The bracket keeps the sensor at it's
minimum
distance from the
magnets of the compass. If the repeater proofs to be to sensitive
and the sensitivity can not be adjusted electronically, the sensor
must be placed further away from the compass. In this case a
special request can be made for an other bracket.
In case an other instrument needs the magnetic compass as
reference, combination brackets are available
NOTE: THE CENTERING OF THE BRACKET MUST BE
CARRIED OUT WITH EXTREME ACCURACY. TO
ALLOW PROPER OPERATION OF THE COMPASS
SYSTEM THE DIFFERENCE OF THE CENTER OF THE
BRACKET AND THE CENTER OF THE MAGNETIC
COMPASS MAY NOT DIFFER MORE THAN 1 mm.
LARGER ERRORS THAN 1 mm WILL RESULT IN A
NOT FULLY ADJUSTABLE COMPASS SYSTEM
Centering the sensor :
- place the compass upside down on the workbench.
- clean the glass with a solvent.
- make a dot of appr. 2 mm. in the center of the glass with a
markerpen
- using a pair of dividers you can scratch a cross in the ink.
- remove the cover from the adhesive tape mounted on the
bracket
- look through the hole in the bracket, centering on the
scratched cross.
- firmly press the bracket on the glass.
The sensorcoil can be mounted in the bracket and secured with
the three brass screws. The cable of the sensor must point to the
stern of the ship. The nylon bolt in the coil must point to the
compass (after mounting the compass, the bolt is on top of the
coil).
Remount the compass in the hinges and fix the cable near the
compass. Make sure that the cable cannot disturb the cardanic
freedom of the compass.
