On the top of the furnace is a 12” collar. Determine where you will attach the 12” pipe to the
plenum or duct of your present furnace. Pick a spot where you have to use the least amount of
pipe to connect the two furnaces. This will help transfer the maximum amount of heat to your duct
system. Also do not downsize this pipe as this will decrease air flow and performance of your
Hitzer Furnace. Restricting can also cause damage to your furnace by trapping to much of the
produced heat. If a central air conditioning coil is installed in the central furnace this connection
must be made above the coil.
Cut the 12” hole in your picked spot. Attaching a 12” takeoff collar,
like on the top of the Hitzer furnace, to this hole will facilitate a better hookup. A takeoff collar is
available at the same places where you get the 12” duct pipe. Assemble the duct pipe connecting
the two systems. Sheet metal screws should be used to secure each joint. Each joint can be
wrapped with aluminum heat resistant tape for an air tight seal. If a backflow damper is used it
must be installed in the plenum of your existing furnace. Do not install in the outlet of the Hitzer
furnace as this will trap the heat in a power outage.
NOTE:
It is always best to run the supply duct up In the case of a power outage the stove can still
be utilized. With the supply duct up, this will allow gravity heat to still rise into the system. If you
have the optional filter housing installed, remove filters during a power outage. This will greatly
improve the air movement up through the system. There are also cover plates along both sides at
the bottom of the furnace. These can also be removed during a power outage to increase the
natural air flow through the system.
Next connect the blower and optional filter housing if applicable. The blower and filter housing
attach to the flange on the rear of the furnace with the four bolts provided. The wires on the blower
are then fed into the junction box where the prewired thermostat and power cord attached.
Connect one blower wire to the open wire from the thermostat with provided wire nut. Connect the
other blower wire to the open wire of the power cord with provided wire nut. Replace cover on the
junction box.
When setting up the furnace with blower and optional filter housing they must be assembled
together and be fastened to blower flange on back of the furnace. Both sides of the filter box are
removable. Remove the screw from the center bottom of the housing and slide the side up and
out.
If you are not running cold air return ducts to the furnace replace these sides with two 20” x
20” x 1” standard furnace filters. Slide them down in place of the metal sides and replace the lid. If
connecting cold air return ducts to the furnace cut the holes in the filter housing sides. Takeoff
collars can be installed to facilitate ease of attaching the returns. Reassemble the sides back into
the filter housing and slide filters down into the slots in the sides. Attach the return ducts to the
takeoff collars. Filters should checked periodically and change at least monthly. Dirty filters will
restrict the air flow causing a reduction in the performance of your Hitzer furnace.
