11. Trouble Diagnosis
Prohibition:
Be sure to follow the service manual when disassembling and reassembling the DVD video camera/recorder.
The R block has a laser emission block inside: unnecessary disassembly or improper reassembly is therefore
very dangerous.
Do not short-circuit test lands, test points or terminals of any component: Short-circuit could cause a fault.
Caution:
Lens, loader and mechanism unit are precision components: Do not subject them to impact or undue force.
Also take care that no foreign object, such as dust, etc., enters the inside of lens or mechanism unit.
Before soldering, be sure to refer to "Lead-Free Solder" at the beginning (on CAUTION page 2).
This DVD video camera/recorder uses only lead-free solder to conserve global environment. Since lead-free
solder has different characteristics from those of conventional lead solder, care must be exercised when
soldering.
11.1 Before starting trouble diagnosis
1) This section includes only major defective phenomena that are likely to occur, their causes and remedies:
Not all phenomena, causes or remedies are included.
2) This section basically assumes that connectors and cables are connected properly, and that they are not damaged
(disconnected). Check for the connection status of connectors and cables, and make sure that they are not damaged
(disconnected) in advance.
3) This section basically assumes that the loaded DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc is normal. Usually, if there is any defect in
DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc, a message will appear on the monitor LCD. If such a message is displayed, refer to
"Explanation of Trouble Message" in this chart, and perform appropriate
troubleshooting.
4) Letters in brackets [ ] in check point columns show the circuit board where the check point is located and the side of the
board.
Example 1: [MAN-A] shows that the check point is located on side A of MAN circuit board.
Example 2: [REF-B] shows that the check point is located on side B of REF circuit board.
5) If the MAN circuit board is faulty, replace the entire board: The parts on MAN circuit are not available as service parts.
6) If the DRC or HDM circuit board in drive mechanism unit is faulty, replace the entire drive mechanism unit.
Since the DRC and HDM circuit boards are included in the drive mechanism unit, neither the circuit boards nor parts on
them are not available as service parts.
11.2 Check (diagnosis) position
There are three check (diagnosis) positions in DVD video camera/recorder used for trouble diagnosis, and these correspond
to check points. Refer to the trouble diagnosis table for the relationship between check positions and check points.
Notes: 1) Use the DZ-ACE1 AC adapter to power the DVD video camera/recorder.
2) When connecting any test equipment (voltmeter, oscilloscope, etc.), connect the GND terminal of test
equipment to the shield cover on MAN circuit board.
3) If a check point cannot be directly accessed by probe of test equipment, etc. (because it is blocked by other
components or circuit boards), solder lead wire, etc. to the check point in advance so that the probe can be
accessed. (Be sure to disconnect the lead wire, etc. after finishing the work.)
