The HELIX B 8DSP / B 12DSP has to be con-
nected to your car audio equipment as follows:
Caution: For carrying out the following steps you
will need special tools and technical knowledge.
In order to avoid connection mistakes and dama-
ges, please ask your dealer for help if you have
any questions and please follow the mandatory
instructions on page 11 of this manual.
1. Connecting the highlevel speaker inputs:
Note: Using this input requires the optional avail-
able adapter cable PP-SC 0,5 (order number
H424907). Please only use this adapter in order
to avoid malfunctions!
It is possible to connect the signal of only one
speaker, two speakers or all four speakers in your
car to the B 8DSP / B 12DSP subwoofer. The
advantage of using all four speaker signals is
that the sound volume relationship between sub-
woofer an all other speakers remains unchanged
even if you vary the balance or fader control on
your car radio head unit.
Make sure that the polarity of all inputs is identi-
cal (see figure 2). The volume output of the sub-
woofer will be significantly affected if one, two or
three inputs have a reversed polarity.
Please note: The automatic power-on circuit of
the B 8DSP / B 12DSP only works properly if
your head unit is equipped with a so-called
highpower output stage (typically if the RMS
power per channel is greater than 12 Watts). In all
other cases it will be necessary to turn the sub-
woofer on/off via the remote input.
2. Connecting the lowlevel preamplifier inputs:
If your car radio is equipped with preamplifier
outputs, you can directly connect these to the
lowlevel inputs of the B 8DSP / B 12DSP. Please
keep in mind that the automatic power-on circuit
does not work in this configuration. You definite-
ly have to connect the remote input of the sub-
woofer with an appropriate switching output of
your car radio to activate the B 8DSP / B 12DSP.
Please note that a concurrent operation of
high and lowlevel inputs may result in mal-
functions!
3. Connecting the power supply and remote:
Exclusively use the included power cable adap-
ter to connect the power supply to the B 8DSP /
B 12DSP (see figure 2 on next page). Please dou-
ble-check that the polarity of the red (+) cable
and the black (-) cable is correct. Fix the (-)
ground cable
(A)
to a non-insulated part of the
car chassis. Bad contact may cause distortion
noise or malfunctions!
When connceting the red (+) cable
(C)
to the car
battery an additional main fuse for this cable is
necessary (not included in delivery). This fuse
must be installed at a maximum distance of
30 cm / 12" from the plus pole (+) of the car battery.
Please only connect the white remote cable
(B)
to a dedicated remote output of your car radio.
It is not recommended to use the ACC signal
of your ignition switch to turn the B 8DSP /
B 12DSP on or off. This may lead to undesired
pop noises during on/off.
Once you have double-checked the complete
wiring, connect the plug (1) with the amplifier
module of the B 8DSP / B 12DSP.
