SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
ENGINE DRIVE BELT
REMOVAL–
Insert
a 1/2 inch square ratchet
drive (fig. 96-1) into the
belt tensioner (fig. 96-2,
item A) and lift upward to
remove the belt (fig. 96-
2, item B).
INSPECTION–
Visually inspect the belt
daily. Check the belt for
intersecting cracks (fig.
96-3). Transverse (across the belt width) cracks are ac-
ceptable. Longitudinal (direction of the belt length) cracks that intersect with transverse cracks are not accept-
able. Replace the belt if it is frayed or has pieces of material missing.

A/C COMPRESSOR BELT–
To tighten the
air conditioner compressor belt, loosen the three bolts
(fig .96-4, item A) and the nut (fig. 96-4, item B) on the
compressor mount. Loosen the bolts and nut just enough
to be able to turn the adjustment spindle.
Turn the spindle counterclockwise (toward the fan) to
loosen the belt tension or clockwise (away from the fan)
to tighten the belt tension. Inspect belt every 250 hours.
