Memory mode
DIMM requirements
Independent
Populate the white DIMM slots prior to the black slots and populate
DIMM channels in sequence.
•
If only one processor is present, start with the lowest numbered
channel, for example, A1, A2, A3, and so on.
•
If two processors are present, start with the lowest numbered
DIMM channels on the two memory controllers in alphabetic
order, for example, A1, B1, A2, B2, A3, B3, and so on.
Mirror
Partial Mirror
To use the mirror or partial mirror mode for a processor, a minimum of
two channels must be populated for each memory controller, and the
memory installation must be symmetric between memory controllers.
If only processor 1 is present, use one of the following schemes to
install DIMMs:
•
Install 2 DIMMs in slots A1 and A2.
•
Install 3 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, and A3.
•
Install 4 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, A4, and A5 or slots A1, A2, A7,
and A8.
•
Install 6 DIMMs in slots A1 to A6 or slots A1, A2, A3, A7, A8, and
A9.
•
Install 8 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, A4, A5, A7, A8, A10, and A11.
•
Install 12 DIMMs in slots A1 to A12.
If both processor 1 and processor 2 are present, use one of the
following schemes to install DIMMs:
•
Install 6 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, A4, A5, B1, and B2.
•
Install 8 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, A4, A5, B1, B2, B4, and B5.
•
Install 9 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, B1, B2, and B3.
•
Install 12 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, A4, A5, A7, A8, A10, A11, B1,
B2, B7, and B8, or slots A1 to A6 and B1 to B6.
•
Install 16 DIMMs in slots A1, A2, A4, A5, A7, A8, A10, A11, B1,
B2, B4, B5, B7, B8, B10, and B11.
•
Install 18 DIMMs in slots A1 to A12, B1, B2, B3, B7, B8, and B9.
•
Install 24 DIMMs in slots A1 to A12 and B1 to B12.
Memory Rank Sparing
A minimum of 2 ranks per channel.
NOTE:
If the DIMM configuration does not meet the requirements for the configured memory mode, the
system uses the default memory mode (Independent mode).
